Do the Hustle... or in my case, don't.
Hustle culture has a lot to answer for.
Have you noticed that people who tell you to hustle are at the top of their game and are usually the ones who are offering you shiny objects, like courses or free trials to ‘boost you to the next level’?
Yeah, well I’m done with hustling, all it has done for me is left me burned out and frustrated. I expect I’m not the only one tired of this constant pressure to strive for something that feel like it’s always just out of reach. The only hustle I want to do from now on is that crazy dance they did in the seventies…
This year I’m going anti hustle. I’m not going to try and set up elevnty six side hustles. I’m not going to consider monetising my hobbies, because that takes away the pleasure in doing them. I’m not going to try and keep up with influencers who read 20 books before I’m out of bed because I have two kids and a dog who need my help in the morning before I even get a chance to pee. (TMI? Sorry, don’t care!)
As I mentioned in this article, I’m staying in my lane, and I will be driving like a nana while in said lane because I’m not in a hurry to get anywhere. My brain needs time to recover from burnout, my family needs me to be a functioning human being who is still able to have a conversation with them past 8pm because I have some energy left instead of wasting it chasing a side project.
This doesn’t mean I have no ambition, I have things I want to achieve, but I’m happy to take my time doing them and letting life have a chance to happen while I’m at it. If you want to jump in my Nana car and stay in the slow lane with me, hop in friend, there is room for all of us!
